A new male contraceptive?

Finally, an alternative to condoms and vasectomies!

We've all been waiting for this for a very very long time, meet ADAM, the new male contraceptive injection that is non hormonal and inserted through a quick injection.

How does it work?!

ADAM is a hydrogel which is injected into the Vas Deferens, the pair of tubes that transport sperm. The procedure is minimally invasive, and is completed in less than 30 minutes with local anaesthetic.

- The hydrogel blocks sperm from travelling through the Vas Deferens (without affecting sensation or ejaculation)

- The sperm that are blocked naturally degrade and are absorbed by the body

- The injection lasts a year, and after that the gel liquifies, removing the barrier and restoring the pathway.

If you're feeling happy because we finally have more options but frustrated because we've been asking for anaesthetic to be the norm for all IUD insertions, as well as better non hormonal and non invasive options for us- I totally feel you.

It's hard not to feel like women are an afterthought when it comes to healthcare, but we mustn't despair, we can take control by educating ourselves and knowing our options.

Would your partner take a contraception injection?
